Daicia is a brilliant, hard working, soon-to-be Master in Social Work who has interned with CHOOSE 180 for the past year, and we are thrilled to have her join us full-time as Workshop Coordinator.
“I am from a small town in the four corners area of New Mexico, I came to Seattle to pursue my Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington. My mother is a childhood cancer survivor that works in a cancer treatment center and my father is emergency manager of San Juan County. Through their influences I have learned the power of giving back to my community and the immense impact that this has.
In my youth I was unwillingly sent away to a boot camp for teenagers in Missouri for 5 months, and incarcerated in a NM juvenile detention center shortly after returning home. I have had to overcome a lot of internal struggles to be where I am today. I am grateful to work for a organization like CHOOSE 180 because I am able to be around youth that have had similar experiences as me. I believe in empowering youth and not dismissing the way that they choose to express their trauma.
I love Hip Hop, dancing, and I want a dog (bad).”
