Teaching and Advancement

Building community across the country

CHOOSE 180 has developed and implemented several successful youth and young adult serving programs over the years through intentional engagement and partnership with systems and community. Many people and entities across the nation, on both the system and community side, have heard of our work and reached out for support and guidance in doing similar work in their communities. The result of these inquiries was the birth of the Teaching & Advancement team at CHOOSE 180.

The Teaching & Advancement team offers support in forming system/community partnerships that lead to cultural shifts and the launch of new prevention and intervention methods where systems, including the school system and the legal system, transfer power and resources to community, which is where we believe solutions to disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline live. Outside of Washington, we are currently partnering with communities in Richmond, VA; Milwaukee, WI; Dallas, TX; Portland, OR; and St. Paul, MN.

  • Cultural shifts and program development aimed at disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline

  • Legal system diversion

  • School-based diversion

  • Prevention

  • Intervention

  • Community engagement

Our niche is being a bridge between systems and the community with focus areas in:

  • Programming for youth in secure detention

  • Restorative practices

  • Re-entry

  • Mentorship

  • Case management

  • Unique requests

The Teaching & Advancement team operates under two different funding models. One is direct compensation from systems and the other is to receiving grants or other third party funding which then allows us to offer our services to both systems and various community-based partners free of charge.
