Stepping Up for the Community
What’s happening to SNAP benefits?
A lot. It was originally announced that SNAP benefits to over 40 million people would be temporarily stopped as a result of the ongoing government shutdown, but organizations immediately took legal action against the presidential administration. As of November 4, some funds are planned to be released, but only about 50% of SNAP benefits, only existing recipients are eligible, and there’s no timeline of when the partial payment might be released.
Food banks, community organizations, and restaurants are preparing to fill in gaps as much as possible until funds are released to people across the country who rely on the assistance.
CHOOSE 180 is offering free support to community members.
It’s tough out there, and for many it’s about to get tougher. We’re here to help. In response to the temporary cuts to SNAP benefits, we’re offering emergency food and supplies to our community members in King and Pierce counties throughout November.
