2024 Youth Advocacy Days Recap
Throughout their time in CHOOSE 180’s Youth and Young Adult (YYA) Advocacy Program participants have been learning to use their voice to transform systems of oppression through policy change. During this legislative session, participants had the opportunity to put their learning into action, by meeting with their legislators during several advocacy events led by local youth-focused organizations.
“Systems must evolve to remain relevant, responsive, and equitable in an ever-changing world, ensuring they serve the needs of society effectively.”

When the program participants got to Olympia, it was action time! Young people went over Youth justice bills and prepared their talking points for their meetings with legislators. In their meetings with their state representatives and senators, young people enthusiastically spoke about what mattered the most to them such as youth justice, free school lunch, affordable housing, and foster care extension.
It was incredible to see how passionate and strong their messages were, and how ready the young people were to take action to make sure their rights were protected. Their critical analysis of the issues that affect our communities were inspiring.
“We advocate for system transformation to uphold the principles of justice, equity, and progress, ensuring that our institutions evolve to meet the evolving needs of a dynamic society.”

CHOOSE 180 envisions community advocacy where we all get active in supporting young people by centering and uplifting their voices in their priorities for youth justice, and for all of us to work together year-round to create a better world for young people to grow and thrive.
“Transforming systems is imperative to dismantle outdated structures, embrace innovation, and cultivate an environment that fosters inclusivity and progress.”
