Deep Dive into the 2023 Summer Program

The 2023 session of our Summer Entrepreneurship Program has officially come to a close!

Over the course of 8 weeks, program participants have:

  • Gained experience working in a professional setting

  • Learned entrepreneurship and business skills from local community leaders and entrepreneurs

  • Identified potential career interests

  • Learned about business casual attire

  • Built their resume

In addition to training, they worked on developing soft skills such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Our 2023 interns put in amazing work this summer creating their business plans and ultimately presenting their entrepreneurial ideas at a celebration for participants and their families, CHOOSE 180 team members, several funders, as well as other members of our community.

“We must grow our soul and mind like a tree. The soul is our strong roots to earth and our mind is the tree that continues to grow to the sky, rest in the balance.” -2023 Summer Intern.

After presenting their business plans, the winners were announced! In first place was TreLaces, a customizable bracelet business created by Tre. In second place was Amphitrite Designs, a sustainable clothing business created by Gia. And in third place was Pro Me, a small exclusive clothing brand created by Nehemiah. All of the young entrepreneurs in this cohort did a fantastic job developing their business ideas and we are so excited to see what they do next!

We also made room for fun this summer! We took our interns to Top Golf, Seahawks Training Camp, and Wild Waves. This session, we had amazing local businesses who offered their expertise and guidance to our participants:

The insight that these businesses were able to provide was invaluable to our participants, we appreciate their time and expertise. Are you a business owner with insights to share? Consider contributing your knowledge to the next summer session! Email Lamaria Pope at lpope@choose180.org.

We are so proud of the work that the young people who participated in our program have accomplished over this summer. Our School-Based Diversion staff is now gearing up for the start of the school year!
